Daughters are a Blessing

November 26, 2016

Daughters are a Blessing

EXTRACTED from a Majlis of Moulana Naeem Motala

29/06/2016 (After Taraweeh /Ramadan 1437) Musjid e Noor

And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison (ie: he is given the news of the birth of a daughter), his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. ~ Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:17

In Islam, daughters are undoubtedly a great blessing from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala and a means of entry into Jannah for parents who raise them with the correct Tarbiyah (upbringing in the obedience of Allah Ta’ala).

In the verse mentioned, Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala, refers to the period of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era), when a father would deem it below his dignity if his wife bore a female child. The birth of a daughter had been a source of anger and an embarrassment to fathers, to the extent that they would  bury their innocent daughters alive.

Allah Taala mentions:

To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He bestows to whom He wills female (children), and He bestows to whom He wills males.

Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is full of Knowledge and Power.  Surah Ash-Shooraa 42: 49/50

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala, the Creator and Owner of every single creation, through His Hikmah (wisdom) and Qudrat (power), bestows offspring to whomsoever He Desires. Some are blessed with daughters, others with sons, yet some are granted none (childless). (Those that are not favoured with the boon of being granted offspring should be content with the Divine decree of Allah Ta’ala.)

Scholars have highlighted the fact that in the above verses, mention was made of ‘daughters‘ first, thus showing to us the significance of having daughters.

The Ahadeeth of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam are replete with great blessings mentioned for the one who is granted a daughter. Hence, in Islam daughters are regarded a great N’imat (bounty) and NOT considered a misfortune.

Hazrat Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri Radiallahu Anhu has narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said :

لاَ يَكُونُ لأَحَدِكُمْ ثَلاَثُ بَنَاتٍ أَوْ ثَلاَثُ أَخَوَاتٍ فَيُحْسِنُ إِلَيْهِنَّ إِلاَّ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ
“If anyone cares for (his) three daughters, inculcates in them good manners, gets them married, and is kind to them, then for him is Paradise.” [Tirmidhi]

Daughters are a blessing and not a misfortune! Take delight on the birth of a daughter!

Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Controlling One’s Anger

November 13, 2016

Lessons from Hadith Shareef ~ Controlling One’s Anger

Adapted from a Majlis of Moulana Naeem Motala

28/06/2016 (After Fajr /Ramadan 1437) Musjid e Noor ~ Durban ~ South Africa

… … …

Anger is a deceptive tool of Shaytaan that only leads to more evil and destruction, ultimately resulting in the spoiling of a Believer’s Imaan …

Shaytaan snatches away the intelligence of a person when he does not control his anger. He thus, loses control of his mind, becomes abusive and perpetrates such crimes that he later terribly regrets.

Therefore, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam has said,

“The strong person is not the one who overpowers and brings his opponent to the ground; but the strong one is he who controls himself when he becomes angry.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Perhaps in the eyes of society a strong person is the one who is able to wrestle his opponent and pin him to the ground; but according to the Shari’ah, a strong person is that person who is able to control himself at the time of anger. He manages and controls his anger. He does not give vent to his anger by becoming verbally or physically abusive. He supresses and swallows his anger.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam has mentioned :

مَا مِنْ جُرْعَةٍ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ جُرْعَةِ غَيْظٍ كَظَمَهَا عَبْدٌ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ ‏
“There is no gulp that brings greater reward with Allah than a gulp of anger that a man swallows (suppresses), seeking thereby the Pleasure of Allah” [Sunan Ibn Majah]
. . . .

Some Benefits of a Person who Controls and Suppresses his Anger :

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala will fill his heart with peace, tranquility, serenity and Imaan.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala will remove ‘His’ anger away from this person on the day of Qiyamah.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala will call him in front of the entire mankind on the day of Qiyamah and give him the choice of ‘Hoorul Een’ that he wishes to have.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala will hold back His Punishment from him on the day of Qiyamah.

. . . . . . . .

Anger Management ~ Some Solutions and Remedies

1. Seeking refuge in Allah from the Shaytaan. One should read: A’oozu Billaahi Minashaytaanir Rajeem

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has said,
Verily, I know a statement, that if he were to say it, his anger would leave: “I seek refuge in Allah from Shaitan, the rejected” [Tirmidhi]

2. Remain Silent

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has said,
“When one of you is angry, he should be silent.” [Al-Adab Al-Mufrad]

3. Make Whudu

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has said,
“Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution.” [Sunan Abi Dawood]

4. Sit or Lie Down

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has said:
إِذَا غَضِبَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ فَلْيَجْلِسْ فَإِنْ ذَهَبَ عَنْهُ الْغَضَبُ وَإِلاَّ فَلْيَضْطَجِعْ ‏
“When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down”. [Sunan Abi Dawood]

Choosing the Correct Friends

November 12, 2016

EXTRACTED from a Majlis of Moulana Naeem Motala
23/06/2016 (After Taraweeh /Ramadan 1437) Musjid e Noor ~ Durban ~ South Africa

. . .

O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaytaan (Satan), then, verily he commands Al-Fahsha’ [i.e. to commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.)], and Al-Munkar [disbelief and polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; to speak or to do what is forbidden in Islam, etc.)] ~ Surah Noor 24:21

Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous ~ Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:67

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, “Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way (straight path) ~ Surah Al-Furqaan 25:27

. . .

Choosing the Correct Friends

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala and Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam have warned us not to adopt the company of wicked and evil friends. Friends who have a negative impact on one’s life, easily mislead one by taking one away from the obedience of Allah Ta’ala. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam has therefore strongly advised us of the importance of choosing good company.

He (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, “A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so you should look at whom you befriend.” [Tirmidhi]

Choosing to befriend righteous and virtuous Muslims is therefore a necessary means for staying on Siraatul Mustaqeem (the straight path).

. . .

A Friend has an Effect on his Friend

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam was asked, “Which person should we adopt as a friend?” He (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied: “One whose appearance reminds you of Allah, and whose speech increases you in knowledge, and whose actions remind you of the hereafter.”

One begins to adopt the style and behaviour of his friends. So, before you choose a friend, enquire about his Akhlaaq (morals and character) analyse his habits, look into his way of life … does he frequent good environments, is he Allah fearing, is he pious company?

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam best described the difference between the good companion and the bad companion when he said,

“The example of a good companion and a bad one, is like that of the seller of musk and the blacksmith (respectively). As for the seller of the musk, he would either grant you some, or you may purchase it from him, or (at least) you would enjoy a pleasant fragrance from him. As for the blacksmith, then either he will burn your clothes or you would get an offensive smell from him.”  [Sahih al-Bukhari]

By befriending a perfume-seller, one will unquestionably benefit by being enveloped in the sweet smells emanating in his company. Even, if one is not purchasing the perfume, merely standing in his shop, will be advantageous to the person when the effects of the fragrant smell stick to his clothing. Like that is the company of a good person.

The parable of evil company is likened to a blacksmith, who is labouring away in his workshop, filled with unpleasant stenchy smoke. The effects of the foul odour and black fumes cling onto a persons clothes, blackening them. Like that is the company of an evil person.

Choose your friends wisely!… Are they bearers of beautiful fragrances or dark clouds of toxic fumes? … They could become the reason for our entering into Jannah or Jahannam?

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala is the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen

November 1, 2016

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala is the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen

EXTRACTED from a Majlis of Moulana Naeem Motala
25/06/2016 (After Taraweeh /Ramadan 1437) Musjid e Noor ~ Durban ~ South Africa

. . .

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala is Aalim-ul-Ghayb Wash-Shahadah (Knower of the unseen and the seen). Nothing (not even a particle) can be hidden from the infinite and limitless knowledge that belongs to Him alone. Even the thoughts that run through our mind and intentions that are contained in our heart, Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala is well aware of them all.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said :

“The key of the Unseen are five: “Verily with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware.” [Surah Luqman 31:34[Bukhari]

This pivotal verse, in which five matters, referred to as Mafaatih al-Ghayb (the keys of the unseen) are mentioned in the Quraan Shareef and Hadith and reveal that Divine Knowledge of these affairs remain with Al Aleemu, Al Khabeeru (The All-Knower, The All-Aware). Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala has made Himself exclusive to this hidden realm of Al-ghayb (the unseen) and has not informed any of the Angels nor the Prophets about it.

. . .    . . .   . . .

Five Things That Only Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala has Exclusive Knowledge Of ~ Mafaatih al-Ghayb (The Keys of the Unseen)

. . .

(1) Knowledge of the Hour (Qiyamah)

The actual moment (hour/day/year) of Qiyamah is exclusively known to Allah Ta’ala alone. People asked Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, when is Qiyamah? To which he replied : “The one who is asked knows not more than the one who is asking”. [Hadith-e-Jibra’eel]

(2)  Knowledge of the time Allah will send rain

The knowledge of rainfall lies with Allah Ta’ala alone. No one knows when it will rain but Allah Ta’ala. The time of rain, amount of rain and location of where rain will fall, is all determined by Allah Ta’ala.  It is only Allah Ta’ala that sends down rain and spreads His Mercy.

(3)  Knowledge of what is in the wombs

Only Allah Ta’ala alone has all the knowledge of what is contained in the wombs of mothers. Today, science has invented ultrasound equipment that could possibly ‘predict’ the gender of a foetus. However, despite these technological advancements, one cannot determine the precise features of an unborn child (eye colour, hair type), nor can one predict whether this soul will be a Mu’min (believer) or a Kaafir (disbeliever), nor can one predict the sustenance that will be meted out to this yet to be born baby. Beyond gender predictions, can the lifespan of this soul be predicted?

(4)  Knowledge of what one will gain tomorrow

The knowledge of Rizq (sustenance) lies solely with Allah Ta’ala. None of us knows exactly how much we will earn tomorrow or whether one will have life to even see the next day. What could be and what could have been, is again known uniquely to Allah alone.

(5)  Knowledge of the land in which one will die

No soul knows in which land, death will overtake them. A person may be in one country today, unbeknown that death awaits him in another country tomorrow. Only Allah Ta’ala knows where a soul’s last moments are destined for. There is no escape from death and the exact time when Malakul Maut (The Angel of Death) is commanded to take a persons Rooh (soul) is only when Allah Ta’ala instructs it’s departure.

. . .    . . .   . . .

As Believers, we need to understand the inexhaustible and boundless knowledge and Greatness of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala. The Hadith says, “Do not look at the Zaath (Being) of Allah, but look to the Siffaat (Attributes) of Allah”. Through knowing His beautiful qualities, one will develop a strong connection with Him, and He will open the door to His Maarifat (recognition).
