Hazrat Az-Zubair bin Al-‘Awwam Radiallaahu Anhu narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said : “There has come to you the disease of the nations before you, jealousy and hatred. This is the ‘shaver’ (haliqah); I do not say that it shaves hair, but that it shaves(destroys) faith. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you of that which will strengthen love between you? Spread (the greeting of) salaam amongst yourselves.” [Tirmidhi]

*Hatred takes away faith like a razor takes away hair

Hazrat Abu Hurairah Radiallaahu Anhu narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “Avoid envy, for envy devours good deeds just as fire devours firewood.” [Abu Dawud]

The Ability to Take the Name of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is a Great Blessing

Adapted from a Zikr Majlis of Moulana Naeem Motala
15/09/2016 ~ Musjid e Noor ~ Durban ~ South Africa

The gatherings of Zikrullah, in which the Name of Allah is taken and conducted solely for the pleasure of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala, are a source of one’s spiritual elevation and a key which opens the doors of Ma’arifat (recognition) of Allah Ta’ala. Angels throng such significant gatherings and Allah Ta’ala’s special Mercy and Sakeenah (tranquility) descends upon those engaged in praising HIM.

A person approached Hazrat Haaji Imdaadullah Rahmatullah Alayh and complained that despite engaging in Zikrullah, he senses no faa’idah (benefit) in it. He had expectations of the heart being illuminated with the radiance of Zikr after making Zikrullah and felt he was not benefiting spiritually. Hazrat Haaji Imdaadullah Rahmatullah Alayh immediately replied to him : The mere fact that you are given the opportunity to take the Mubaruk name of Allah is a great Ni’mat (blessing) from Allah.

None of us have the Qudrat (strength and power) to obey Allah Ta’ala, except with Allah’s Mercy upon us. Similarly, none of us have the ability to take the name of Allah Ta’ala with these very same tongues that speak lies, cheat and utter vulgarities, without Him giving us the opportunity and capability to do so! Allah Ta’ala continuously gives us the Taufeeq (ability) to take His Glorious and Majestic name …. this itself is a great benefit and blessing.

Hazrat Haaji Imdaadullah Rahmatullah Alayh further explained : If a person goes to the house of a high ranking personality and his presence is unwanted, then he will be harshly removed. But … if the prominent person is happy with him coming there, he will welcome him in a kind manner and will perhaps even extend his invitation to visit again.

Likewise, when a person comes to the house of Allah Ta’ala and he gets the opportunity of returning again, or when a person performs Salaah and he gets the opportunity of standing before Allah Ta’ala again, or when a person engages in the Zikr of Allah Ta’ala and he gets the opportunity of remembering Allah Ta’ala again …. then, this is a sign that Allah Ta’ala loves the person and has given him another chance, as though He has invited the person (in His presence) again.

So, being able to do the Itaa’at (obedience) of Allah Ta’ala continuously, is a gateway to His love and a great Ni’mat (bounty) upon us.

Husne Dhan Billah ~ Having Good Expectations of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

Husne Dhan Billah ~ Having Good Expectations of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

Adapted from a Zikr Majlis of Moulana Naeem Motala
 11/08/2016 ~ Musjid e Noor ~ Durban ~ South Africa

A Mu’min (Believer) has to always harbour good thoughts of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Allah has bestowed upon us countless of bounties in the past and present and He continues to favour us, so we should not be pessimistic regarding our future, lest we are considered ungrateful. When a Believer places His trust in Allah, hoping and anticipating good, then Allah Ta’ala in return does good to Him.

Allah Ta’ala says in the Noble Quraan :

وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مَخْرَجًا • وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ

And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Surah At-Taalaq (65:2/3)

When a person does not have good thoughts regarding Allah Ta’ala he will not be able to engender the type of love he ought to have for Allah Ta’ala. When this love is not found, then a person slowly drifts away from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala and he becomes overpowered by Shaytaan and succumbs to sins.

Shaytaan will continuously play back the reels of our past and make us feel miserable, but, when a righteous believer inculcates Husne Dhan Billah (has a good expectation of Allah), then Allah Ta’ala creates unlimited avenues for him to seek His forgiveness and gain proximity to Him. Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala looks for a thousand excuses to forgive us, and never looks for a thousand excuses to punish us!

Once we have made sincere Taubah and we do not return to our past sins and try our level best to inculcate ‘Taqwa’ (Allah consciousness) in our lives and obey Allah Ta’ala and Rasulullah Sallallahu AlayhI Wa Sallam, Allah Ta’ala’s mercy will envelop us and we will InshaAllah, find ourselves in a good condition in the hereafter.

It is mentioned in a Hadith of Rasullullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, reported by Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud Radiallahu Anhu :

وعن ابن مسعود، رضي الله عنه ، قال‏:‏ قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم،
“الجنة أقرب إلى أحدكم من شراك نعله، والنار مثل ذلك‏”‏ ‏(‏رواه البخاري‏‏‏)‏‏‏

“Jannah is nearer to you than your shoelace, and so is the (Hell) Fire” ~ Al-Bukhari

Just like how a shoelace is tied firmly and is close to a shoe, Jannah is close to us and not unattainable or a far fetched goal. One should always be hopeful and never lose sight of the promises of Allah Ta’ala (The Most Kind and Most Merciful) ) who has mentioned to us that, in the Aakhirah (in Jannah) there will be no depression and no oppression. In Surah Yaseen, Allah Ta’ala has mentioned :  سَلَامٌ قَوْلًا مِّن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ  Peace! – a word (of salutation) from a Lord Most Merciful! ~ [36:58], that  He, Himself, will make Salaam to the Jannati’s who will be in total peace, tranquility, serenity and enjoyment.

In a similar way, Jahannum is also close to us … so to attain this friendship of Allah Ta’ala and get the enjoyment of the Aakhirah, one will have to make Mujahadah and exert a force against one’s Nafs, suppress one’s desires and resist the strong temptations of the Dunya when sins present themselves. Striving in the wrong path and expending all our energies in Haraam is not Mujahadah ON the Nafs, but that Mujahadah is for entertainment OF the Nafs. We will make mistakes and be faced with temptations, trials, pain and suffering, but these are all the hurdles of this ‘temporary life’. Having good thoughts of Allah Ta’ala, engenders the love of Allah Ta’ala in our hearts and creates this strong bond with Allah.

Rasullullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, said that Allah the Almighty said, in a Hadith Qudsi:

‘I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.’ “

The fact that Allah Ta’ala gives us the opportunity to obey and worship Him through Salaah, Zikrullah, Tilawat etc … is a proof of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala’s Mercy and kindness upon us. We should always make Shukr to Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala and be grateful servants and not of those who are constantly complaining.

Therefore, inculcating Husne Dhan Billah, a hopeful attitude, together with having good thoughts of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala is a distinguishing quality of a Mu’min, which will make the road towards Him very easy InshaAllah.

But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah ~ Surah Al Baqarah 2:165

. . .

www-veiledgems-com-allah

5 Ways of Generating the Love of Allah Ta’ala into Our Hearts

1 • Abundant remembrance of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala through Zikrullah. The more a person makes the Zikr of Allah, the more HIS love increases in a persons heart.

2 •  Pondering over the innumerable Ni’mats (bounties) that Allah Ta’ala has bestowed upon us.

When one contemplates over the continuous bounties Allah has showered upon him, then the response to Allah would be, that one begins to love Allah, (his BENEFACTOR ) more and more …

3 • Keeping the company of the friends of Allah Ta’ala, in whose companionship, the effects of Allah Ta’ala’s Muhhabbat (love) is engendered into our hearts.

4 • Remaining in the obedience of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. The more one obeys his Beloved, the more his love  increases.

5 • Making Dua to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala to instil HIS love into our heart.

Allahumma inni as-aluka hubbaka, wa hubba may-yuhibbuka, wa hubba ‘amalin yuqarribu ila hubbika

O Allah! I ask You for Your love and the love of those who love You, and for the love of every action which will bring me closer to Your love.

The Significance of Haj

The following story is attributed to Junaid al-Baghdadi  regarding an explanation of the essence of Hajj.

Junaid ibn Muhammad Abu al-Qasim al-Khazzaz al-Baghdadi also known as Junaid Baghdadi was born in Baghdad (830-910 AD). He was one of the early Persian scholars and teachers of Islam.

Once Junaid Baghdadi met a man who had returned from Hajj (Hajji). After observing him for a while he asked him, “Have you been to Hajj?”

Hajji: Yes, I have just come back.

Junaid: When you left your home with the intention of Hajj, did you repent from all your sins?

Hajji: I did not think about it.

Junaid: In that case, you did not even depart for Hajj.

Junaid: What about your journey, rest-breaks and stopovers? When covering distances, did you move mentally and spiritually closer to Allah?

Hajji: I was too busy with other details of the journey and did not reflect on that.

Junaid: Then you have not really travelled to the house of Allah.

Junaid: How about while putting on the Ihraam and replacing your usual clothes, did you think about discarding your undesirable habits and attitudes?

Hajji: It did not cross my mind.

Junaid: Alas! You did not even put on the Ihraam.

Junaid: Did you experience the presence of Allah while you were standing in Arafaat as if He was in front of you?

Hajji: No, I did not get that feeling.

Junaid: That means you did not even reach Arafaat.

Junaid: When you went to Muzdalfah, did you think about gathering your your worldly desires and aspirations as you picked up the pebbles so that you can cast them out when you reach the pillars of temptation?

Hajji: I was only thinking about gathering the pebbles.

Junaid: So, you have not even been to Muzdalfah.

Junaid: What about throwing stones at the pillars? When performing that ritual, did you make a pledge to avoid corrupt enticements and cast away your ill deeds?

Hajji: This did not happen either.

Junaid: Unfortunately, you have not performed Ramy (stoning rites) either.

Junaid: How was your Tawaaf (circumambulation)? Did you feel overwhelmed by an ardent attraction towards the perfect Majesty of Allah during Tawaaf?

Hajji: No, I was only counting the number of Tawaaf I was making.

Junaid: It is, then, as if you have not even performed Tawaaf.

Junaid: Perhaps you understood the spirit, wisdom and objective of running between Mounts Safaa and Marwah. Did you think about the struggle of Mother Hajira? Did you think about her faith and devotion to Allah?

Hajji: Not really.

Junaid: In other words, you have not performed Sayee (running between Safaa and Marwah).

Junaid: Tell me about your sacrificial rites. While slaughtering the animal, did you sacrifice for the love of Allah? And did you think about Prophet Ibrahim and his unwavering commitment to Allah?

Hajji: That did not come to my mind.

Junaid: In that case, you have not even offer the sacrifice.

Junaid: Allah is the Most Merciful! You must go back next year and perform the Hajj again with the correct spirit and attitude of becoming God Conscious. You need to re-enact the experiences of Ibrahim AS and contemplate on his example. Remember and reflect on the verse of the Quran that says, “And Ibrahim who fulfilled his commitments.” (53:37)

‘Total Submission’ to the Will of Allah

September 3, 2016

The first ten days of Zul Hijjah are among the most auspicious days in the Islamic calendar. Good deeds (Amal-e-Sawleh) that are performed during these ten days are more beloved to Allah than any other time of the year.

The story of Ibraheem AS is greatly associated with Hajj because the origin of Hajj is old as the Kaa’ba (which was built by Ibraheem AS and his son Isma’eel AS). Every act of Hajj reminds us of the noble family of Ibraheem AS and refers back to the righteous actions and struggle of either Ibraheem AS, his wife Hajrah AS or his son Isma’eel AS.

The sacrifices they made portrayed great spiritual lessons of ‘complete devotion‘ and ‘total submission‘ to Allah Subhanahu~Wa~Ta’ala …

The Essence of Qurbani ~ Annihilation (Fana) of the Nafs

By the dawn

And [by] the night when it passes,

Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?

Surah Al Fajr ~ 89 : 1-5

Alhumdulilah, we are approaching the Mubaaruk days of Zul Hijjah and the auspicious day of Qurbani.

The lesson of Qurbani teaches us to sacrifice for the sake of Allah. It reminds us that we are slaves of Allah and not of our nafs.

When we place the knife on the throat of the animal, then we should ponder, reflect and imagine, that in reality, we are placing the knife on the ‘throat of our Nafs‘ and we are slaughtering this Nafs of ours … We are slaughtering the evil desires and spiritual maladies of our souls- ie the anger, jealousy, malice, pride, egoism, greed etc.

After making Qurbani bearing this in mind, if we are invited by the evil desires of our nafs again, then we should quickly remind ourselves that we have just slaughtered our Nafs and hence  should not become tempted so easily and return to those sins we have given up, not too long ago!

Ask ourselves – If we are true slaves of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala and we endeavour to annihilate (Fana) our Nafs, then why do we succumb so easily to the dictates of our nafs and become slaves of the Nafs that we had just subdued and slaughtered?
