The Effects and Benefits of Zikr Become Manifest Gradually

September 25, 2013

The Zikr of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala is an extremely powerful Ni’mat unto us and is highly emphasized in the Quraan and Sunnah. By making Zikr, Allah gives us an opportunity to rid all the filth of sins that we have accumulated in our hearts.

Day and night, we are attracted by evil, sin, temptations and challenging environments. Hence we are in dire need of making a strong mujaahadah on our nafs, lest we become victims of the vice that overwhelms us. Thus one has to refrain from all sin and cling onto the Zikr of Allah.

However, sometimes when one begins to make Zikrullah, he gets the thought that he is making Zikr, but feels that he is not benefitting … This is not the case!

.. .. ..

Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi RA explains : He gives an example of a little child that is growing. Each day the child is growing but nobody can say for sure how much the child has grown each day. After a considerable amount of time, we suddenly see that the child has grown taller and bigger. In the beginning, we could not make out the difference. This child was growing but we could not perceive it growing, but only after some time, we saw a big difference in this child’s growth….

In a similar vein ,when a person makes the Zikr of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala continuously … then only after some time, will he see the true effect. Each day we are making Zikr, and we are spiritually growing and deriving benefit, even though we may not perceive this or gain some enjoyment from the sweetness of the Zikr on our tongues or the Sukoon in the heart, in the initial stage…

.. .. ..

Another common concern we have is that at times we can’t concentrate well.  Hazrat Thanwi (RA) has explained that we should not be too perturbed by this concern. One should NOT exert himself too much in trying to concentrate during Zikr. A cursory concentration is sufficient. Then as one becomes more regular with Zikr, his concentration levels in Zikr will improve and increase…

“When you are in love with someone, then you will keep mentioning his/her name. When Allah Ta’ala is our Most Beloved … then how much more should we be taking His name!”
. . .
“When we will polish our hearts with the Zikr of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala, then we will experience a floodgate of Noor (effulgence) pouring into our hearts….”
